BIOL 102

Biology for Future K-6 Teachers

Participant Perception Indicator:  Self-Assessment

Directions

This questionnaire has been designed to measure your perception of your knowledge, experience, and confidence on various course objectives. With each statement are three indicators of your involvement.  For each of the questions indicate how you feel about your knowledge, experience, and confidence.

Indicate how you feel about your knowledge, experience, and confidence for BIOL102 course objectives.

INQUIRY AND BIOLOGICAL PROCESS SKILLS

low = 1        high = 5

knowledge experience confidence

1) Apply scientific methodology through biological experimental methods.

2) Test theories and scientific claims when interpreting experimental results.
3) Define and use biological terms correctly to communicate biological concepts clearly and accurately when solving problems that require knowledge of biological concepts.
4) Understand issues raised by biology for contemporary society and appreciate the relevance and application of biology in everyday life.
5) Understand the synergism between science and technology-- how new technologies make possible new advances in science. Use technology in conjunction with biological science content.

BIOLOGICAL CONTENT OBJECTIVES

low = 1        high = 5

knowledge experience confidence

1) Know that living things are made of smaller structures with functions that enable the organism to survive.

2) Describe the structure of genes, how they function, and how they are involved in evolution..
3) Recognize mechanisms to explain how the great diversity of living things can result from billions of years of evolution.
4) Know how living things depend on each other and the physical environment as they interact to obtain, change, and exchange matter and energy.
5) Distinguish models from empirical evidence and know how both are used to advance biological knowledge.

BIOLOGICAL THEMES

low = 1        high = 5

knowledge experience confidence

1) Science as inquiry.

2) Recognize scale and structure of biological systems.
3) Identify biological patterns of change.
4) Test the theory of evolution.
5) Understand biological flows of matter and energy.
