Master of Science in Education:
Teaching Foundational Mathematics
The Department of Secondary Education at California State University, Fullerton offers an exciting new graduate program: Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Teaching Foundational Mathematics (formerly called Middle School Mathematics). Click here for a 1-page flyer.
This unique program is offered in collaboration with the CSUF Department of Mathematics and is designed for experienced teachers of mathematics in grade 4 - geometry. The program supports teachers in building on their knowledge of both mathematics content and mathematics education. Reflective of the College of Education’s Mission Statement, throughout the coursework there is a strong emphasis on issues of equity in public schooling and teachers’ role in becoming change agents in their workplaces.
Both face-to-face and online courses are utilized in this hybrid program. As such, this program is uniquely suited for busy math professionals.
The web classes allow students to complete coursework without coming to campus. Face-to-face classes are scheduled so that students come to campus one day per week.
Courses are sequenced so that most students will complete their programs in 20 months. See the planned schedule here: http://ed.fullerton.edu/SecEd/Gradprgm/Classes.htm#MSMSM
This program orients students to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Extensive support is provided for candidates seeking National Board certification, which can be used as a culminating experience for the program.
