5.30 SUMMARIES: STUDENT OPINIONS

The Division of Education's Personnel Standards (1999, p. 8) states:

Rating: Results from statistical summaries:

Excellent 90% or more A or B ratings, with at least 40% A's

The table below summarizes the student opinion mean scores range from between 3.21 and 3.97. An average of 90.6% of my ratings are A's and B's. For each course, no fewer than 55% of the ratings fall within an A range. The reader will note that the lowest ratings were received in a class (EDAD503) that was taught to a different group of students during the same semester. The instruction, class sessions, instructional activities were identical. Yet the difference in ratings is significant (-28% A & B ratings). This particular class was larger than other classes (n=32), the room assigned at Mission Viejo Center was extremely small, and the class was somewhat hostile among themselves. Space, physical needs, and cultural dynamics aside, I am working diligently to increase my awareness and sensitivity to student needs early in my courses to increase effectiveness for learning and focusing on instructional effectiveness.

SERVICE CREDIT

I received two years service credit from California State University, Fullerton. However, my previous teaching experience in educational administration spans seven years. Most recently I served as Dean of Instruction at Coastline Community College, but continued my teaching on a part time basis at University of California, Irvine and California State University, Long Beach. Prior to that, I was a full time Associate Professor at California State University, Los Angeles for three years. Since selecting a two-year period would either represent recent part time teaching OR full time teaching over 4 years ago, I am instead providing a representative sample of my part-time teaching and a complete listing of full time teaching below.

University of California, Irvine Scale:

I was a part time lecturer in the Ed.D. Program at UCI while working full time as Dean of Instruction at Coastline College.(1996-1999)
