Students are expected to come each week, live or online, prepared to contribute their knowledge and insights. We will strive for class sessions that are lively, engaging, fun, creative and informative. More than your physical or online presence is required in class. We are looking for attentiveness, vitality and enthusiasm. Thoughtful and informed participation in class will contribute to your grade.

All assignments must be completed and sent or deposited electronically to the instructor before coming to class on the due date. You will be evaluated in this course based on your ability to complete timely assignments that meet or exceed expectations. Each assignment will consist of 1-5 computational activities, which may be worked on during a portion of the scheduled class. Assignments may be completed outside of class, as all software used in this course is available for installation on your home computer or laptop, and it is also available in various computer classrooms across campus.

The course will culminate with a 200-point final examination that will test your level of mastery of the learning outcomes.

Each weekly assignment averages 150 points, grading is on a straight percentage, and +/- grading will be used at each end of the grading range:  A 90 - 100; B 80-89; C 7-79; D 60-69; F < 60 percent. Weekly assignments constitute 70% of your grade, the final exam, 20%, and your participation/contributions to class the remaining 10%. +/- grading will be used, but the + or - will be assigned AFTER the initial letter grade in the above range is determined.
