Fall, 2009
The State of California is facing a very dire budget shortfall that will impact the citizens of the state in various and numerous ways. As students, you likely already know that the budget recently passed by the State Legislature included a cut of nearly $585 million to the 2009—2010 budget for the California State University .
In order to limit as much as possible the effects of such a huge budget cut, several steps have been taken. Most apparently, your fees were raised and faculty, staff, and administration have received a pay reduction that corresponds to a required furlough. Administrative and staff furlough will result in most campus services being unavailable two days a month. Each faculty member must take 9 furlough days each semester and is responsible for letting students know if those days coincide with instructional day and assigning out-of-class work to compensate.
Fortunately, as a result of your increased fees and faculty/staff/administrative furlough and pay reduction, fewer classes were cut and fewer services lost than would have been otherwise. Unfortunately, because it is not easy to cover a $585 million reduction to the budget, a significant number of classes were cut and services are unavailable.
However, be assured that all of us—faculty, staff, and administration—share your commitment to CSU Fullerton’s high quality education and to accomplishing the educational goals set forth in all programs and courses.
