| "‘When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean-neither more nor less.’ ‘The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’ ‘The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘ which is to be master-that’s all.’" Lewis Carroll Welcome! Many people assume that writing is some sort of "mystical" activity, performed only by those who have a natural inclination or inexplicable talent. Writing can be a magical experience. The bond between writer and thinker is a celebration of life and experience. This connection between thought process and life experience and the discovery of one’s inner voice is what makes the writing process somewhat magical; however it is important to remain grounded in the understanding that the ability to communicate sufficiently well, verbally or in written form, holds the key to your personal and professional success, whatever field or endeavor you choose. Most importantly, it is a process that can be learned, if one possesses the desire, diligence, and determination to try. The magic comes from the process of learning that writing can be empowering and can also be fun! Really! Anyone can be a writer. By definition, a writer is anyone that writes, whether for fun or profit. Sure, there are those individuals who dazzle our senses and then there are those who, well let's just say that they should make sure they have a backup career. However, with persistence and motivation, anyone can learn to write reasonably well. Writing should not be feared, even if you have never thought of yourself as a "good" writer, or even if you have been told in the past that you "can't write." Becoming a successful writer means thinking positively and applying techniques. Learning to communication on paper will require critical thinking and practice, but the brain is a muscle ready for hard work. Albert Einstein sums it up concisely, "Success is 90% perspiration and 20% inspiration." So, forget your so-called writing failures of the past; they have simply prepared you for this moment in your life when you can become the succinct writer that I know is lurking in your heart, just waiting for the opportunity to be heard. You have an important voice. Let the world know what you think. Writing is your ticket to immortality in this experience we call "life."
