Welcome to Web Based Technologies!

This website contains a review of four web based technologies that can be modeled by faculty in higher education to promote technology integration including podcasting, teacher web pages, blogging, and RSS feeds.  Some of the items listed here are new, some are not so new, but still relevant to teaching and learning with technologies.  I have attempted to provide you with a few of the more common software applications that are used to create the web based technologies. Since technology is ever changing - visit often to see what new items and applications are listed on this site.

How are the web based technologies connected?

The diagram below details how podcasting, teacher websites, blogs and RSS feeds are interrelated.

The first layer of the diagram depicts  the three technologies listed, all of which are web based: teacher websites, blogs and podcasts.

The second layer of the diagram shows that the teacher website, blog and podcast are all connected. A teacher website can contain a blog and podcasts can be distributed via a website.  A blog may contain podcasts, and websites are displayed as part of a blog.

The final layer of the diagram demonstrates the relationship between a teacher website, blog and podcasts. An xml file, or an RSS feed can be attached to each of the sites to enable the subscription to the site. Note that, although a podcast file is not subscribed to, podcasts are retrieved via the RSS feeds.
